LI870 PRACTICUM: IMPACT STUDY

Academic impact is a measure of how many people have read, cited, or otherwise used an author's works. Many factors determine an article's impact, including trending topics, current research, established authorship, and quality of writing. Many young scholars work with mentors to help them gain experience with becoming published. In the library field, librarians often collaborate writing papers to help advance librarianship.

During my practicum I had the opportunity to work on an impact study of all the Eccles Library staff for the past five years. Both the Deputy Director (Melissa Rethlefsen) and Associate Director for Education and Research (Jeanne LeBer) guided me in developing this report. While compiling this report, I learned that impact could include conferences and posters, in addition to published papers. Before the practicum, I was not very familiar with academic impact, and it was fascinating to see how involved librarians are academia and how eager they are to share their ideas.
