LI855 COLLECTION DEVELOPMENT AND MANAGEMENT: MCKAY MUSIC LIBRARY COLLECTION ASSESSMENT
One of the most important parts of being a librarian is maintaining and improving the organization according to the community's needs. Patrons hold librarians to a high standard, but librarians should have even higher expectations of themselves. In the face of adversity and uncertainty, librarians must stay true to their convictions as public servants and the quality of service they can offer.
I worked with two other cohort members on a budgeting project for our Collection Development and Management class in Fall 2014. We decided to focus on a special library the McKay Music Library at the University of Utah. Lisa Chaufty, the library director, graciously offered her time to meet with us to discuss collection development and funding. Our group devised a plan for fundraising for the McKay Library in case of a budget decrease. This plan would sustain the library not only to continue serving the community's music information needs but to keep the library interesting with regular fundraising concerts. We believe we met our goal of upholding the integrity of this particular library and of librarianship in general.
