LI804 ORGANIZATION OF INFORMATION: MeSH SCHEMA ANALYSIS

A schema analysis was my first true opportunity to explore medical librarianship from a technical standpoint. Researching schemas provided a great opportunity to think like a librarian who had to consider the search needs of patrons. I looked into the MeSH database maintained by the National Library of Medicine and researched how this thesaurus functions.
This MeSH Schema Analysis is research paper discussing how information is organized in the MeSH thesaurus. It describes how the metadata is structured and suggests ways to perform searches efficiently in the database.
